Getting Started

A step-by-step guide on how to start accepting payments

1

Create an ePay account

Before you can set up ePay on your website, you need to create an account with ePay.

It only takes a few minutes to create an account, and you don’t need a credit card to do so. Click the button below.

When do I have to pay for my subscription?

Your ePay subscription starts from the day we receive and activate your acquiring agreement from the acquirer (e.g., Worldline).

At the same time we activate the agreement, your account will automatically be converted to a live account so you can receive real payments.

You will receive an invoice for your subscription by email a few days after your account is activated.

2

Set up ePay on your website

You can choose between three integration options

When setting up ePay on your website, you'll need the ID of your Point of Sale 🛍️ and your API key 🔑. Both are available inside ePay backoffice (admin).

🛍️ A Point of Sale is the place where you receive payments - for example, your webshop. In ePay, your Point of Sale is the environment where you manage payment settings and setup.

🔑 An API key functions as your unique password when your system communicates with ePay. It's used to identify you and ensure payments are routed correctly. This key is secret and must not be shared.

💡Your ePay account has both a test mode and a live mode - remember, both your Point of Sale and API key differ in each mode.

3

Meet the requirements for your website

Our acquirers have a number of requirements that your website and payment form must meet.

You must ensure your website and webshop meet these requirements, or you will not be approved to accept card payments.

Requirements for accepting payments

  • Your business must be registered with a CVR number.
  • Your business must own the domain where the payment form is set up. You can check this at Punktum.dk.
  • Terms and privacy policy must be available on your website, and customers must actively confirm having read and understood them before payment. If applying to Nets for a Dankort acquiring agreement, the terms must be in Danish.
  • Terms must include the following:
    • Business information (CVR, name and address).
    • Right of withdrawal (min. 14 days) and right of complaint (min. 24 months).
    • Return shipping and complaint procedures.
    • Delivery options and delivery times.
    • Payment methods and when payment is deducted (e.g. 'Payment is charged upon shipment').
  • Your business name, address, CVR number and contact details (email and phone) must be shown on the website.
  • Products/services must be presented with descriptions and images that give a true impression of your business's trade area.
  • Prices must include correct currency and state whether VAT is included or not.
  • You must show the card logos for the payment cards you accept. You can download the card logos here. If you only have a Dankort agreement, you may only display the Dankort logo.
  • The page where customers enter their card details must be SSL secured (ePay takes care of this as our payment window is SSL secured).
  • After completing payment, your customers must be shown a receipt.

Requirements if you accept subscriptions

If you want to accept subscription payments, you must include additional information on your website.

  • Subscription terms and general terms must be accepted separately by the cardholder before payment (2x checkbox).
  • Subscription terms must include:
    • Procedure for changes/renewal of card number.
    • How and how often the customer receives/accesses receipts, per the law on certain payment methods.
    • When funds are withdrawn (e.g. every 30 days or on the 1st of each month).
    • That the business stores the customer’s card info.
    • How the customer can subscribe to the service/product.
    • How the customer can cancel the subscription.
    • Other relevant info like commitment period, notice period, receipt after purchase etc.

If you're considering subscription payments with ePay, feel free to contact us for advice.

NOTE: If your site doesn't meet the above requirements, processing time for your acquiring application will be extended.

4

Apply for an acquiring agreement

💡 If you already have an acquiring agreement, skip this step.

Why do I need an acquiring agreement?

Your acquiring agreement determines which payment cards can be used on your site.

For example, Nets is the only acquirer that supports Dankort, so most Danish businesses have an agreement with Nets.

You agree with the acquirer on which bank account funds are transferred to.

✔ Once you've submitted your application to the acquirer, notify us.

How long does it take to get the agreement?

Once submitted, the acquirer will review your application, including a credit assessment. This may take time.

When the review is complete, the acquirer will send you a contract to sign and return.

Once returned, they'll create the agreement and send it to you via email. ePay receives a copy automatically.

Expect 4-6 weeks for the process. We recommend starting early.

We also recommend reviewing the website requirements before applying to avoid delays.

To check the status of your application, contact the acquirer.

5

The acquiring agreement is in place

Once your acquiring agreement is created, the acquirer sends a copy to ePay (if you selected ePay in your application).

When we receive it, we add and activate it on your ePay account and notify you via email.

You're now ready to accept online payments on your site.

To accept real payments, replace both your Point of Sale ID and API key with those used in live mode.

If we haven't activated your agreement within 24 hours, contact us to have it activated.

Note for Clearhaus: We need your Clearhaus API key to activate your ePay account.
